Leprosy Support to State TB & Leprosy Control Programme Nigeria

The objectives of this project are: early detection via continued training of health care workers on how to diagnose early signs of Leprosy (training is extended to cover all the health workers in the primary health care facilities and in DOTS Centres); prevention of disability via prompt treatment and POID sessions and offering free reconstructive surgery for those with disabilities and deformities; running regular mobile clinics to manage other comorbid diseases; rehabilitation and integration into the community via small microfinance projects; provision of solar Inverter for electricity; Construction of Blocks of rooms with modern amenities, toilets and Kitchen; provision of Borehole water for easy access to portable water.

Leprosy: Strengthening Prevention and Control Efforts

By 2026, the project aims to interrupt (or maintained) transmission in 15 out of 24 districts and reduce the number of child cases in the other 9 districts in Koshi and Sudurpaschim Provinces. The program’s impact will be demonstrated through achieving Zero Leprosy, which entails zero infection and disease.

Leprosy Friendly Village (LFV)

The project cultivates leprosy friendly communities in 20 villages across Kuningan District to reduce leprosy transmission and discrimination against persons affected by leprosy. The project aims to increase local skills in leprosy diagnosis and management, community knowledge, and leprosy advocacy abilities of local organisations.

Leprosy control by developing specific actions with different social actors, aimed at improving the capacity in diagnosis by health workers, early detection by some social actors of the municipalities such as cohabitants or relatives, groups of young adolescents and mainly a group of the patients themselves who will be trained by DAHW, in addition to training actions for relatives and affected people, to improve knowledge in relation to basic care to prevent the appearance or advance of disabilities.

Innovative strategies to strengthen contact surveillance and intervene in the transmission of leprosy in endemic areas

Zero Transmission Project: Starting in 2024 and running until 2026, in the cities of Maracanaú, Fortaleza, Sobral and Redenção, with the aim of training and monitoring doctors, nurses and health agents until they are able to fully carry out suspicion, diagnosis and treatment of people with leprosy. Also involve leaders among people affected by leprosy so that they can monitor and support projects in advocacy aspects with local authorities as well as develop research to evaluate post-exposure chemoprophylaxis schemes (PEP using SRD-PEP and Rifampetin), evaluate a technological tool surveillance and monitoring and develop a counseling protocol for the use of the ML Flow rapid test for contacts of people with leprosy.

By improving access to schooling for 350 children and young people with disabilities in Plan 3000 in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, they will be integrated into social life. This overall goal will be achieved by making children and young people with disabilities and their families aware of their rights and responsibilities, by building knowledge and skills to implement inclusive education among teachers from ten educational institutions, and by establishing a local inter-institutional coordination network to promote inclusion.
