Overview

A focus on Zero Disability requires ILEP and its Members to work and collaborate at multiple levels:

  • With international and inter-government organisations such as the World Health Organization and the UN High Commission for Human Rights.
  • With government ministries and departments including ministries of health, social welfare, labour, etc.
  • With other non-governmental organisations working in the developing world, to make sure that persons affected by leprosy and disability are not excluded from their programmes.
  • With local and international organisations of people affected by leprosy, and organisations of persons with disabilities (OPDs). They are the partners who are best placed to understand the realities and impact of disability on their day-to-day lives, and to inform many aspects of our work.

International Disability and Development Consortium

ILEP is a member of The International Disability and Development Consortium (IDDC). This is a grouping of civil society organisations coming together around a common objective: promoting inclusive international development and humanitarian action with a special focus on the full and effective enjoyment of human rights by all people with disabilities. Inclusive development means respecting the full human rights of every person, acknowledging diversity, eradicating poverty and ensuring that all people are fully included and can actively participate in development processes and activities regardless of age, gender, disability, state of health, ethnic origin or any other characteristic. ILEP and ILEP Members are represented on a number of IDDC task groups such as community based inclusive development, inclusive health, livelihoods, and partnerships with organisations of persons with disabilities.
